Talk time
The total time a battery can power a phone for mobile calls. As the phone drains the battery during a call, the talk time left in the battery is diminished until the phone is turned off or the battery recharged. The longer the talk time the less frequently you will need to recharge. Talk time, expressed in hours and minutes, is much shorter than standby time because transmission requires more power. See also Standby Time.

TDMA
Time Division Multiple Access (TDMA) is one of several technologies used in digital wireless transmissions that increases the efficiency of the network by allowing a greater number of simultaneous transmissions. Networks using TDMA assign 6 timeslots for each frequency channel. Devices using the wireless network send bursts of information that are reassembled at the receiving end.

Transportable Phone
A wireless phone that may be removed from an automobile and used by itself with an attached battery pack because it does not rely on the automobile battery for power. Also referred to as a "bag" or "briefcase" phone, referring to the power supply that must accompany the phone and to differentiate it from one-piece, lightweight wireless phones currently available. See also Mobile Phone.

Tri-band
Different mobile phone networks operate at different frequencies, which means that if you wish to use your mobile phone outside your home country, you generally need a handset that supports multiple frequency bands. A tri-band phone operates on three frequency bands, GSM900, GSM1800, and GSM1900, allowing you to use it in Europe, Africa, Asia, and nearly all of North America and Australia. See also Dual band.

T9 Text Input
Application that allows you to type messages with just one key press per letter on wireless phones. Much easier text input than traditional multi-tapping. See also Predictive Text Input.
